Whistlestop, Marin Villages & Marin Symphony To Benefit from Proceeds of Sale

Tiburon, CA – October 15, 2019 – Sudha Pennathur announces the Sixteenth Annual Sudha’s Treasures Benefit Sale, featuring exotic items from her acclaimed retail collection. The Benefit Sale will be held at the Corte Madera Town Center November 2nd through the 17th, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting three local Bay Area nonprofits: Whistlestop, Marin Villages, and Marin Symphony; as well as other charities in India.

Sudha Pennathur sponsors and mentors a select group of master craftspeople in India to create distinctive jewelry, scarves, textiles, & decorative objects, in addition to Christmas and Hanukkah ornaments.  Her designs are featured and sold in such prestigious stores as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Harrods of London, as well as the Sundance Catalog and Gift Shops of The Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Each year, Bay Area shoppers enjoy incredible discounts on beautiful scarves, jewelry and gift items while giving back to their community. Over the past 15 years, more than $600,000 has been donated to local nonprofits. The first Sudha Sale was held in 2003, when Sudha had the inspiration to open a retailpop-up store, donating 100% of the proceeds to local non-profits. Over the years, sale proceeds have gone to Bread & Roses, The Redwoods, Angel Island Conservancy, Gateway Public Schools, Whistlestop, Equal Rights Advocates, Marin Villages, North Bay Children’s Center and Berkeley Repertory Theater.

The Sudha Sale supports craftspeople in India to continue their beautiful, labor-intensive artistic traditions while simultaneously contributing generously to the local American community. According to Sudha, “Supporting those in need is a fundamental value that was taught and practiced in my family. When we have enough to live and enjoy the fruits of our labor, there is nothing more rewarding than to share with others less fortunate and with those who can make a real difference in the life of others. I love contributing to the community where I live and the artisans who, through their products, made my career a success!”

About Marin Villages

Marin Villages is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization empowering older adults to be active, connected and independent in the place they call home. About Marin Symphony

The Marin Symphony Association is one of the longest-running, most prestigious, cultural organizations in Marin County and the Bay Area. The orchestra was the inspiration of a small group of professional and amateur musicians who wished to bring classical music, performed by local artists, to the people of Marin. Originally chartered as the Symphony Guild of Marin, the new organization also committed to providing programs to give young people in Marin an incentive for musical study and accomplishment.
